Pushing the Season

Nothing like a shower in the rain
nothing like a work day without pain
nothing like a beer that never ends
or a friend that never dies
nothing like the day that wakens from a sleep
or the realization that
there's no need to weep.

Jack,

I’m half smashed. Beer, whisky, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, anti-inflammatories, narcotics (prescription), marijuana and some A&W grease clogging my arteries from this mornings sausage and egger. Seems you have taken a hacienda from storytelling. Didn’t you hear, words cut like a sickle. What about the dead snake we layed on the railway tracks. The frog down the wellhouse that made the water taste bad. No lie. A guy looked at me and said with all seriousness, “God created man - Winchester made them equal.” Up till then, I thought we were having a good conversation. I looked at his belt and knew he wasn’t packing. One smack took him down. He may have had a rod in his sock, but gave him a boot before he could reach. Better safe than sorry - you know me. You would have had mercy, let him grab his piece. More dangerous, but a hell-of-a-lot more fun. Of course it can get crazy. Like the time you cut a gunslingers hand off with a hacksaw. Sure he deserved it (nobody ever gets what they deserve) so I applaud your commitment. But the screaming, blood, the lifeless limb. It was enough to turn my stomach. That’s what I like about you. I don’t care if you are in love, or quit drinking hard liquor, found Jesus, joined the Rotary, started listening to ambient new age music. But keep your shit together. Put some stories up, for Christ’s fucking sake.
